This file is a compilation of the few various AppLabs text files found in the tarball. These are made as one text file for quick and easy online viewing. The text files which come with the testing programs themselves are in separate folders in the tarball. The various text files are separated with lines like: >>> BEGIN PRINTER WORKSHEET <<< >>> END PRINTER WORKSHEET <<< >>> BEGIN TTCP TEST TOOL TEXT FILE <<< >>> END TTCP TEST TOOL TEXT FILE <<< The text files included in this file are: printer_cert.txt printcap If you have questions you can direct them to linux@applabs.com. >>> BEGIN PRINTER WORKSHEET TEXT <<< Printer/Printer Server Certification Worksheet AppLabs Printer/Printer Server Certification Test, Revision 1.5 - JCW Tester's Name: ____________________________________ Date: ________________________ Section 1: Product Information Manufacturer: _____________________________________________________________________ Product Name and Model Number: ____________________________________________________ Product Type: Printer Printer server If printer, does printer have built-in printer server? Files are to be named textfill.txt and textfil2.txt. These files are then used with the following command to dump a text file into the queue: Cat textfile.txt > /dev/lp Determination: Textfill.txt - If the file prints correctly with each line beginning and ending at the proper place, the test is a pass; otherwise, fail. Textfil2.txt - If the file prints correctly with each line beginning and ending at the proper place and the page breaks appear in the proper place, the test is a pass. Otherwise, fail. Note: Both text files must print properly in order to pass this test. Stair-stepping Test Procedure: Using the same textfill.txt from above, check the output to see if stair stepping is happening. If the second and third lines of the printed file do not print left justified, then stair stepping is present. Determination: This is not a Pass/Fail test, but is done only to ascertain whether or not stair-stepping is an issue with the printer. If the lines are left justified, indicate "Yes" on the test sheet. Otherwise "No". Man page Dump to Printer Procedure: Tester sends a small man page to the printer with the following command: groff -Tascii thesis.tr | lpr Or alternately, man manpage | col -b | lpr Determination: The man page must print completely with proper line returns and the file must be readable in order to pass this test. Binary Black & White EPS, GIF, JPG Test Procedure: If a suitable image cannot be found, convert a color file to the specific Black & White format. Use Xview or a similar art viewer to send file to the printer queue and compare the printed version with the file on the screen. Determination: For each test, the printed copy must meet the following criteria: 1. The printed copy must look like the copy on the screen. 2. The size (resolution) of the printed copy must be the same as specified when the print job was initiated. Binary Color EPS, GIF, JPG Test Procedure: Tester sends the appropriate file to the printer queue using Xview or a similar art viewer/manipulation program. Determination: For each test, the printed copy must meet the following criteria: 1. The printed copy must look like the copy on the screen. 2. The size (resolution) of the printed copy must be the same as specified when the print job was initiated. Office Suite Application tests Word Processor Tests: 1. Small document test Procedure: Tester sends a small (single page) document to the printer queue. Determination: To pass, the following must be met: * The printed document must appear the same as the screen version in regards to lines and paragraphs. * The printed document must have the same or very similar font as the screen version. * Size (resolution) must be the same as specified when sending the document to the queue. 2. Large document test Procedure: Tester sends a large (>3 pages) document to the printer queue. Determination: To pass, the following must be met: * The printed document must appear the same as the screen version in regards to lines and paragraphs. * The printed document must have the same or very similar font as the screen version. * Size (resolution) must be the same as specified when sending the document to the queue. 3. Changed fonts test Procedure: The tester, using the same document as in the small document test above, changes the font and sends the document to the printer queue. Determination: The font as printed must be the same or very similar to the font as shown on the screen version of the document. Otherwise, fail. 4. Paper Orientation Test Procedure: If the feature is provided in the print tool, send the file used in the Small Document Test above to the printer queue in both portrait and landscape formats. Determination: To pass, the portrait and landscape prints should appear in on the printed page in the proper orientation. Otherwise, fail. 5. Paper Tray Test - If the feature is provided in the print tool, send the file used in the Small Document Test above to the printer queue, specifying the paper tray to be used. Determination: To pass, the paper used for the printed copy must come from the specified paper tray on the printer. Otherwise, fail. Data/Spreadsheet Tests 1. Small Range Test Procedure: Tester sends a selected range of cells to be printed to the printer queue. Determination: To pass, the printed copy must be properly realized any and all print parameters issued from the print tool reflected on paper (with grid, without grid, row/column numbers and letters, etc.) Otherwise, fail. 2. Large range test Procedure: Tester sends complete spreadsheet to the printer queue for printing. The spreadsheet should be of such size as to require at least three pages to print completely. Determination: To pass, the printed copy must be properly realized any and all print parameters issued from the print tool reflected on paper (with grid, without grid, row/column numbers and letters, etc.) Otherwise, fail. Multimedia Page Test Procedure: Tester sends a web page from Netscape to the printer queue. Page should have a good mix of both graphics and print blocks. Determination: To pass, the following must be met: * The graphics on the printed page must be in both the same location and be of the same approximate size as the screen version; * Blocks of text must also be in both the same location and be of the same size as the screen version. * Blocks of text must use the same or a very similar text font for all text blocks printed. Dead Printer Test Procedure: Tester first takes the printer off-line, then sends to the printer the file used in the Small Document Test above. After the file is in the printer queue, the tester then places the printer back online. Determination: To pass, the printer must print out the file as sent without any further manipulation of either the printer or the print queue. Otherwise, fail. Printer Server Test Procedure: If the printer has a built-in print spooler, the tester will make connections to the printer through the additional connection ports as well as the usual serial/parallel port when conducting all tests. If the printer server is a separate component, the printer server will be connected between the printer and the test system for all tests. Determination: The printer server or print spooler must remain invisible to all print tasks with no loss of printed files during any of the tests, including the Dead Printer Test. >>> END PRINTER WORKSHEET TEXT <<< >>> BEGIN SAMPLE PRINTCAP TEXT <<< # LOCAL djet500 lp|dj|deskjet:\ :sd=/var/spool/lpd/dj:\ :mx#0:\ :lp=/dev/lp0:\ :sh: >>> END SAMPLE PRINTCAP TEXT <<<
