This document presents the results of the Linux Compatibility test, which included the installation of Caldera OpenLinux eServer 2.3, TurboLinux 6.0 Japanese, SuSE 6.3 and SuSE 6.4 on the IBM eServer xSeries 230.


AppLabs' Linux compatibility testing of this system showed the IBM eServer xSeries 230 to be compatible with Caldera OpenLinux eServer 2.3, TurboLinux 6.0, SuSE 6.3 and SuSE 6.4. The IBM eServer xSeries 230 is awarded the AppLabs Linux Compatibility mark.

Hardware Details

The following table defines the hardware configuration details for the tested system.

Hardware Configuration Information
Motherboard and ProcessorThis system contains two Intel Pentium III processors clocked at 667 MHz. System was tested with 256 MB RAM.
Display Adapters There is an S3 Savage 4 with 8 MB video RAM.
I/O Busses The system includes a standard floppy drive interface. There are PS/2 style keyboard and mouse ports present. The tested system included one (1) IBM ST3910LC hard drive. There are Zero (0) ISA slots; five (5) PCI slots; no AGP slot; and, two USB ports.
Network InterfaceThis system contains a PCnet Fast (79c975) NIC interface built into the main board.
Included PeripheralsThe included CD-ROM drive is an Atapi-type IDE drive. The system was tested with a Dell Quietkey keyboard (101-key standard) and a generic 3-button PS/2 mouse.
Miscellaneous Hardware There are two serial ports. There is one bi-directional parallel port. There is one 1.44 megabyte floppy drive.

Related Notes

1. Caldera does not provide for a standard NFS install in their installation. Instead, Caldera provides for a DHCP-based install. Instructions are available from Caldera at the Caldera Systems support site.
