Linux Compatibility Testing Results

- This document
presents the results of the Linux Compatibility test, which
included the installation of Caldera OpenLinux 2.2, Turbo Linux
3.0.1, and SuSE Linux 6.1. on the IBM IntelliStation Z-Pro
family of workstations.
AppLabs' Linux
compatibility testing of this system showed the IBM
IntelliStation Z-Pro family of workstations to be compatible with
Caldera OpenLinux 2.2, TurboLinux 3.0.1, and SuSE Linuz6.1. The
IBM IntelliStation Z-Pro is awarded the AppLabs Linux
Compatibility mark.

Motherboard and Processor |
The mother board uses the
Intel 440 GX chipset with an integrated Crystal Semiconductor
CS4235 sound card and an integrated Intel 82557 PCI network
interface. This family of systems contains one or two Intel
Pentium III processors. The processors as tested were clocked at
550Mhz. There are two processor slots.

Display Adapters |
All configurations as
tested by AppLabs included a Matrox Milennium G200 AGP display
adapter. There are eight megabytes of video memory present.
IBM also offers Z Pro
systems containing Intergraph or IBM display adapters. These
display adapters are not compatible with the XFree86 XWindows
system |

I/O Busses |
There is an Intel PIIX4
Ultra DMA IDE interface integrated into the mother board. There
are six 32-bit PCI slots. This system includes one AGP slot and
one ISA slot. The system includes a standard floppy drive
interface. There are two USB ports present. There are PS/2 style
keyboard and mouse ports present. |

Network Interface |
The network adapter used
is compatible with an Intel EtherExpress Pro100b PCI card. |

Included Peripherals |
The included CD-ROM drive
is an IBM model CRD-8400B. This is an ATAPI device attached to
the IDE interface. This system used an US English 104 key
keyboard. This system used a PS/2 two button mouse.
Some configurations were
tested using the integrated PIIX4 IDE interface and an IBM model
DTTA-371010 10 gigabyte UltraDMA IDE drive.
Other configurations were
tested using the included Adaptec AHA-2940U2W Ultra2 / LVD SCSI
host adapter and a Seagate Cheetah ST39102LW 9 gigabyte LVD drive
as included as an OEM device by IBM.

Miscellaneous Hardware |
There are two 16550A
compatible serial ports present. There is one bi-directional
parallel port present. There is one 1.44 megabyte floppy drive
present. |
