Linux Compatibility Testing Results

This document presents the results of the Linux Compatibility test, which included the installation of Caldera's OpenLinux 2.4 eDesktop, TurboLinux 6.1 Japanese, and SuSE 7.0 on the IBM IntelliStation Z Pro family of workstations.

AppLabs' Linux compatibility testing of this system showed the IBM IntelliStation Z Pro family of workstations to be compatible with Caldera's OpenLinux 2.4 eDesktop, TurboLinux 6.1 Japanese, and SuSE Linux 7.0. The IBM IntelliStation Z Pro is awarded the AppLabs Linux Compatibility mark.

Hardware Details

The following table defines the hardware configuration details for the tested system.

Hardware Configuration Information

Motherboard and Processor

The mother board uses an Intel 840 chipset with an integrated ADI 1881 sound chip (tested with ALSA 0.5.9a drivers.) Networking is provided by an integrated Intel 82557 PCI network interface. This family of systems contains one or two Intel Pentium III Xeon processors. The processors as tested were clocked at 667MHz.

Display Adapters

All configurations as tested by AppLabs included a Matrox Milennium G400 AGP display adapter. There are xisteen megabytes of video memory present.

I/O Busses

There is an Adaptec SCSI host adapter integrated into the mother board. There are six PCI slots; four 32-bit and 2 64-bit. This system includes one AGP slot and no ISA slots. The system includes a standard floppy drive interface. There are two USB ports present. There are PS/2 style keyboard and mouse ports present.

Network Interface

The network adapter used is compatible with an Intel EtherExpress Pro100b PCI card.

Included Peripherals

The included CD-ROM drive is an IBM model CRD-8480C. This is an ATAPI device attached to the IDE interface. This system was tested with a US English 101 key keyboard. This system was tested with a PS/2 three button mouse.

The test configuration used the integrated SCSI interface and an IBM model PSG Tornado 9 GB drive. drive.

Miscellaneous Hardware

There are two 16550A compatible serial ports present. There is one bi-directional parallel port present. There is one 1.44 megabyte floppy drive present.

1. Caldera's 2.4 eDesktop failed to install via the automated NFS installer.
