Linux Compatibility Testing Results

This document presents the results of the Linux Compatibility test, which included the installation of Caldera OpenLinux 2.2,TurboLinux 3.0.1, TurboLinux Server 1.0 (Japanese), and SuSE Linux 6.0 on the IBM Netfinity 3000 server.


AppLabs' Linux compatibility testing of this system showed the IBM Netfinity 3000 server to be compatible with Caldera OpenLinux 2.2 as a network server. The IBM Netfinity 3000 is awarded the AppLabs Linux Compatibility mark.

Hardware Details

The following table defines the hardware configuration details for the tested system.

Hardware Configuration Information
Motherboard and ProcessorIBM motherboard. Intel chipset with integrated Ethernet, audio, and video with standard I/O functions.The processors as tested were 500Mhz and 550Mhz
Display AdaptersS3 Trio3D video adapter integrated into the motherboard. Factory shipped with two megabytes of video memory.
I/O BussesStandard factory shipment included: Adaptec AHA-2940UW Ultra Wide SCSI host adapter as hard drive interface; CD-ROM device with integrated Intel PIIX-4 IDE interface; PCI and ISA expansion busses; one AGP slot (present but unused); two USB ports (not yet tested for Linux compatibility); and PS/2 style keyboard and mouse ports.
Network InterfaceIntel Pro100b PCI 100baseTX Ethernet adapter integrated into the motherboard.
Included PeripheralsFactory-shipped peripherals included: IBM CRD-8322B ATAPI CD-ROM drive; IBM KB-7953 PS/2-style keyboard using the US-English 104-key mapping in X Windows; and IBM DDRS-34560W Ultra Wide SCSI hard drive. A Logitech M-S34 two-button PS/2-style mouse was used.
Miscellaneous HardwareSystem was factory-configured with: two 16550A serial ports, one bidirectional parallel port, a Crystal CS4235 sound chipset integrated into the motherboard, and one 3.5 inch 1.44 megabyte floppy drive.
