Linux Compatibility Testing Results

This document presents the results of the Linux Compatibility test, which included the installation of Caldera eServer 2.3, SuSE 6.4 and TurboLinux Server 6.0 Japanese on the IBM Netfinity 3500 M20.


AppLabs' Linux compatibility testing of this system showed the IBM Netfinity 3500 M20 to be compatible with Caldera's eServer2.3, SuSE 6.4 and TurboLinux Server 6.0 Japanese. The IBM Netfinity 3500 M20 is awarded the AppLabs Linux Compatibility mark.

Hardware Details

The following table defines the hardware configuration details for the tested system.

Hardware Configuration Information
Motherboard and ProcessorThe system has an IBM main board with two Intel Pentium III processors clocked at 800 MHz.
Display Adapters There is an onboard S3 Savage 4 display chip with 4 MB video RAM.
I/O Busses The system includes a standard 1.44 MB floppy drive. There are PS/2 style keyboard and mouse ports (one each.) The tested system included one (1) IBM PSG DNES-309170W hard drive. There is no ISA slot; 2 32 bit PCI slots and 3 64 bit PCI slots; no AGP slot; two USB ports.
Network InterfaceThis system contains one (1) onboard Intel i82557/i82558 Pro 10/100.
Included PeripheralsThe included CD-ROM drive is an 40X Atapi-type IDE drive. The system was tested with a Dell Quietkey keyboard (101-key standard) and a generic 3-button PS/2 mouse.
Miscellaneous Hardware There are two serial ports. There is one parallel port.

Caldera eServer 2.3 Notes:

    1. A network install must be completed using a DHCP server. See the Caldera Support Site for detailed information on setting one up for use with Caldera.

SuSE 6.4 Notes:

    1. dmesg will report the serial ports as ttyS00 and ttyS01 but there are no such devices made. The user will need to create symbolic links to ttyS0 and ttyS1 for these in /dev.

TurboLinux Server 6.0 Japanese Notes:

    1. The user will need to setup the XF86Config file for frame buffer usage before successfully configuring an X server. See the following link for information here.
