This document presents the results of the Linux Compatibility test, which included the installation of Caldera OpenLinux eServer 2.3, TurboLinux Server 4.0 and SuSE 6.3 on the IBM Netfinity 5500.


AppLabs' Linux compatibility testing of this system showed the IBM Netfinity 5500 to be compatible with Caldera OpenLinux eServer 2.3, TurboLInux Server 4.0, and SuSE 6.3. The IBM Netfinity 5500 is awarded the AppLabs Linux Compatibility mark.

Hardware Details

The following table defines the hardware configuration details for the tested system.

Hardware Configuration Information
Motherboard and ProcessorThe system motherboard is a IBM . This system contains two Intel Pentium II processors. The processors as tested were clocked at 450Mhz.
Display Adapters There is an S3 Trio 64 display adapter. There is one megabyte of video memory present.
I/O Busses The system includes a standard floppy drive interface. There are PS/2 style keyboard and mouse ports present. The tested system included three (3) Seagate ST39102 LC Cheetah hard drives. There is one ISA slot; 6 PCI slots; no AGP slot; two USB ports.
Network InterfaceThis system contains a PCnet Fast (79c971) NIC interface built into the main board.
Included PeripheralsThe included CD-ROM drive is an Atapi-type IDE drive. The system was tested with a Dell Quietkey keyboard (101-key standard) and a generic 3-button PS/2 mouse.
Miscellaneous Hardware There are three serial ports present. Two regular and one management There is one bi-directional parallel port present. There is one 1.44 megabyte floppy drive present.

1. To do a network install, the user will need to set up a DHCP server providing NFS services. Caldera provides a webpage describing the process. See the Caldera website for more information.
