This document presents the results of the Linux Compatibility test, which included the installation of Caldera OpenLinux eServer 2.3, SuSE 6.3 and TurboLinux 6.0 Japanese on the IBM Netfinity 8500R.


AppLabs' Linux compatibility testing of this system showed the IBM Netfinity 8500R to be compatible with Caldera OpenLinux eServer 2.3, SuSE 6.3 and TurboLinux 6.0 Japanese. The IBM Netfinity 8500R is awarded the AppLabs Linux Compatibility mark.

Hardware Details

The following table defines the hardware configuration details for the tested system.

Hardware Configuration Information
Motherboard and ProcessorThe system tested contained eight (8) Intel Pentium II Xeon processors clocked at 550 MHz and 2 MB cache each. System was tested with 512 MB RAM.
Display Adapters There is an S3 Trio 3D with 4 MB video RAM.
I/O Busses The system includes a standard floppy drive interface. There are PS/2 style keyboard and mouse ports present. The tested system included two (2) IBM ST39103LC hard drives. There are Zero (0) ISA slots; six (6) 64-bit PCI slots; no AGP slot; and, two USB ports. There is one (1) external SCSI connector.
Network InterfaceThis system was tested with a PCI Intel Ethernet 10/100 Pro NIC.
Included PeripheralsThe included CD-ROM drive is an Atapi-type 40X IDE drive. The system was tested with a Dell Quietkey keyboard (101-key standard) and a generic 3-button PS/2 mouse.
Miscellaneous Hardware There are two standard 16550A serial ports. There is one bi-directional parallel port. There is one 1.44 megabyte floppy drive. There is one management port each for NIC, phone, and a third serial port.
